SB Lawyer searches the related parties of a matter in the firm’s other matters, active or archived. Matches are sent to the partners concerned, who approve or reject them.
- Each related party must exist as a contact.
- The Matter Category sets the level of checking:
- None: no check;
- Normal: a check is expected, but moving to In Progress can be forced;
- Consolidated: the check is mandatory, possibly with a minimum number of related parties and a mandatory role.
- The conflict matrix defines which combinations of roles are a conflict, for example client versus opposing party.
- Open the Matter Card, then choose Related Parties.
- Add the related parties with their Role. The sell-to customer and the bill-to customer are added automatically.
- Choose Conflict Check.
- If there’s no potential conflict, the matter moves to In Progress. Otherwise, select the conflicts to submit, then choose Send Approval.
While an approval is pending, the matter is On Hold: you can still enter time, but you can’t invoice.
The partners and managers of the matters concerned receive the request by email or notification, depending on their setup. They handle it on the Conflict Check Approval page with Approve or Reject.
- All matches approved: the related party is validated. When all related parties are validated, the matter moves to In Progress.
- One match rejected: the related party is rejected and the matter is blocked.
